Description
Walking around Michaels, I saw the most teeny-tiny terracotta pots ever (they are 3/4" high or so), and these were next to the Sculpy and Fimo clay area-
DING!
I worked on these last week and finally finished them on Saturday. It's rather strange trying to make up a 3D representation of a flat image from the popular game by PopCap "Plants vs. Zombies" (it's really fun, a must play game). The heads were awkward to shape, I started using a pin to help smooth out edges. The stems have wire running through it so they can hold up the head, and were then covered in clay. I made the leaves separate from the head and stem - required assembly after baking.
After baking came painting on the eyes. Two problems came up - the white dot paint started sliding off the black eyes while the gloss settled, which I had to quickly and carefully blow back into places (luckily it only happened with one plant); and head colors came out darker than I thought they would (eeeh it's okay, I still prefer it to be a little lighter). After glossing the heads and stems, I decided to put them together, which made glossing the leaves easier to do.
After cutting out brown felt discs for the "dirt", I cut a small hole for the stem(s) to poke through. One by one I squeeze hot glue into the terracotta pot before it reaches the edge, then came the plant with the felt. I held the head in place as the hot glue hardens. Then came the part of hotgluing each leaf onto the base of the stem. Once that was done, then I brush on the gloss on top of the leaves. Wait till they dry, and TA-DA!
I wish there was a chess set of Plants vs. Zombies, that would be so awesome :< Edit: to add, these are about 2" tall, though Threepeater is a little taller at 2.25"
I made these myself, but the concept of Peashooter, Repeater, and Threepeater belong to PopCap.
